Bboying, or its more popular name, Breakdancing, is thriving in Indonesia largely thanks to the efforts of Febian Hidranto aka Bboy Kreate. After living and dancing in the United States for almost a decade, he returned to Indonesia and helped the local scene grow by sharing his references with anyone who was willing to learn. Immersed in street culture, he also throws events and has established his own brand, Urbain.
Beginning from a wish to create a place for creative individuals to gather and work together, Aditya Hadiputra and Marshall Utoyo came up with the idea of Conclave. The word “conclave” itself means a gathering or get-together. As a co-working space, Conclave encourages the creative minds to exchange ideas and create better results. Whiteboard Journal got the chance to visit Conclave in Wiyaya area, South Jakarta, and get to know more what they offer.
Dutch graphic novelist Peter Van Dongen is perhaps best known in Indonesia for Rampokan Jawa, a novel set during Indonesia's struggle for independence which has gathered a cult following in the archipelago. Having been around in the music scene as the frontman for Lain, Zeke and the Popo and Zeke Khaseli and The Wrong Planeteers. Zeke Khaseli is no stranger in Indonesia's music scene. His contributions to movies like "Kala", and "Fiksi" marks his trace on the Indonesian movie scoring scene. We talk with him about the development on music scoring to the latest happening in the independent film.
Music plays a crucial part in films, and Aghi Narottama knows well how to make great music for great films. He is the man behind the music of Berbagi Suami, Quickie Express, Negeri 5 Menara, and many more. With his knowledge in audio production, he has now become one of the best composers in Indonesia. He is also involved in Indonesia Music Institute (Institut Musik Indonesia).
Having received her Bachelors degree in Design at Trisakti University and Masters degree in Art History at Goldsmith College in London, Farah Wardani returned to Indonesia to explore the Indonesian art scene as well as document it through Indonesian Visual Art Archive (IVAA), an archive of modern and contemporary Indonesian art. Both she and IVAA are based in Yogyakarta, and Whiteboard Journal had the chance to talk to her during her visit to Jakarta.
