Vol. 13: Gary Hostage

It's approaching the end of March and things are getting even busier than ever! Luckily I have a special guest contributor, Gary Hostage, who's willing to part his time for this month's Heartattack. Apart from abusing his bass on Vague and also performing individually as Gary Hostage (not sure if this particular project is still on), he also dabbles in his own independent enterprise to organize shows and such. This time, he will be sharing to us few of his favorite Canadian bands. I do hope that you enjoy this mix as much as I do. -- I feel excited when Jan asked me to contribute for his reputably heart attack program because it has been a while since I occupy myself with music compiling activities (making mixtape). This mix focuses on "Cancon" (Canadian content) so here you have it! Several Canadian tunes, ranging from hardcore to polka which (hopefully) would please your hearing senses. Oh, in case you are wondering, I don't put great and notable Canadian bands like Fucked Up, DOA, or Japandroids because they have enough exposure already. Courtesy of Gary Hostage; you are welcome. Tracklist: 01. Raised by Wolves - Rats are Gonna Die Tonight 02. The Dreadnoughts - Goblin Humppa 03. Bishops Green - Tumbling Down 04. Hassler - Retaliation 05. The Brains - Screaming 06. Invasives - Who You Are 07. Ought - The Weather Song 08. TV Freaks - Knife 09. Fashionism - Smash the State (With Your Face) 10. Knucklehead - Voice Among Us 11. Tranzmitors - Nervous Breakdown 12. Rum Runner - the Punks are Due on Maple Street

Every Frame a Painting

Thanks to a Facebook post by Heart Attack host Januar Kristianto, I was pleasantly introduced to the Every Frame a Painting, a Youtube Channel dedicated to analyzing films from an editor's standpoint. Presented by Tony Zhou, the channel has videos with specific themes and subjects - such as the quadrant system and lateral tracking shots, as well as focusing on specific directors' works, such as Satoshi Kon's use of editing to portray space and time, Jackie Chan using rhythm to create fight scenes, and Michael Bay's ultra-flashy "Bayhem" style. So far, Every Frame a Painting has 17 videos published, and hopefully, with its growing number of viewers, there will be more added to its library. Click the video above to watch an episode about movie-goer favorite: the long shot, and click here to view the Youtube channel.
