A couple of days ago I was surfing Youtube watching a bunch of live music performances when I stumbled on . The roughly 60-minute french film first started by introducing as to how the English Skinhead movement began - I was immediately hooked. It then continued into explaining how the , eventually spreading to Paris, France. In the 80s these racist and fascist Skinheads caused terror in France through violence, targeting mostly immigrants. The situation eventually became so bad that the youth began organizing a group called the dedicated to stopping the Skinheads through series pre-emptive strikes..
Because the film is narrated through the statements of mostly Skinhead Hunters it doesn't particularly tell a well-rounded story, but it is a pretty entertaining one. The Red Warrior's tale is one that could easily fit into a Hollywood action film, particularly because of how much conviction these guys had in wiping out the Skinheads, and the fact that they were all trained and proven martial artists gave it an extra oomph. After directing her own body of work that includes the latest film and perviously writer and director steers away from producing graphic novels of her personal experience and goes on a chase in the south of Spain. With the quintessential charm of Satrapi, bright Spanish landscape, and a joyful soundtrack accompanying the whole movie, results in a delightful and entertaining film. Maybe something Satrapi is going for after the poignant and nostalgic nature of her pervious works. La Bande des Jotas will only be out next week in Paris.

On Saturday jan 19th, 2013 Salihara held one of the event featuring the main and only act for the night .
The performance was politely opened with an Assalamalikum greeting from the leader of this outfit Shadu Rasjidi a percussionist turned bass player who also a proud son of Indonesian jazz pianist maestro Idang Rasjidi; but this night was not a polite one though, it's a vulgar display of talents from all of the members which include Shaku Rasjidi (drum), Fanny Kuncoro (Piano/keyboard), Ayla Noor Iman Adjie (Guitar), Fabion Haryo Ajie (saxophone), and Indra Arti Dauna (trumpet).
From the get go, the first pick of Shadu's electric bass created a rich aura of funk, slapping the audience in the face along with the fusion foundation of this young outfit. by playing Davis' Splacth and followed by Groovin Licks by Idang Rasjidi, these opening tunes were fast and dynamic, an indication of where this outfit is going to be in the future. which is a reminder of where they're from Bogor. This particular piece started with a cool west coast sound and gradually progressed into a fast funk fusion, which is the signature sound of Sahdu's and it's only natural since he used to play in an Funk Ensamble along with his siblings.
The night was also highlighted with a spontaneous performance by Idang Rasjidi who is sitting with us the audience, he got up a did a quick majestic 2 minutes piano solo during the encore and that conclude the buzz that we had the whole night! Great performance by the youngsters and watch for them blowing up in stages near you or far.

Son of another Indonesian great, multi-instrumentalist-Jack Lesmana, Indra Lesmana is a child prodigy who learned how to master the keys at a young age, with his first performances done at the age of ten to an audience of hundreds and thousands, and his first album released when he was 12 years old. From child to adulthood, Indra Lesmana has dedicated his life to music.
With currently over 50 albums released, his musical endeavors are not restricted to jazz, Indra Lesmana has also released a multitude of critically acclaimed pop records, winning a BASF Award for his meaningful pop numbers. Currently busy promoting the first LLW record, LLW being his modern jazz trio with bassist-Barry Likumahuwa and drummer-Sandy Winarta, Indra Lesmana spared some time our of his busy schedule to talk to W_Music about some highlights from his three decade-long career, LLW, and leaves the viewers and aspiring musicians some words of wisdom.
