This one delves into the life of one of the most extraordinary (in all senses of the word) musician to have come out in the past century or so: . This documentary features a few members of his , and of the , and a whole other level of weirdness. A top watch for sure.
Who doesn't like fun anecdotes about records eh? This installment of the hugely entertaining series sees deejay /Uncle Nu talk about various funny stories of his record collecting adventures. From climbing rooftops in search of 45s in New Orleans to digging in Cuba as well as various other cool anecdotes.
This 9th installment is a rather special one. Not only does it feature one of my favourite deep-house producers in the form of teaming up with for a, it also has the trendy electronic festival play a set on our favourite independent radio station as well as old regular providing his picks of 1980s rap. Bam I say, bam!
'Impressive'is a word that describe artist Fabien Merelle sculpture, Pentateuque. The French artist's work brings one of his painting to life, a man balancing the weight of the world on his shoulders (the weight represented by the elephant). As you can see from the photos above (dont forget to scroll!), the attention to detail is stunning - everything from the elephant skin's texture, the man's slightly hairy arms and legs, to the texture of the clothing the man is wearing is meticulously made to look realistic. The character's expression, the two's body language, not to mention the absurdity of a man balancing an elephant on his back, gives Pentateuque a very lighthearted, almost comical feel to it. Pentateuque was shown at 2013 art stage singapore exhibition at the marina bay sands.
Jose Parla's work brings out the textures and atmosphere of the urban environment on the canvas like no other, the combination of his elongated graffiti combined with textural paint daubs and splashes create images that is reminiscent of the facade of many of the world's major cities. Recently having an exhibition in London's Haunch of Venison, Nowness had the opportunity to interview mr. Parla and what we get is this insightful video. In "Broken Languages", Parla guides the audience through his creative process, explaining site-specific works to how he interprets and references the environments into his work. A good, pretty inspirational piece. Enjoy.
