“Recollection” by Keep Shelly in Athens

In ’s latest single music video, the Greek dreampop duo collaborated with the Canadian based videographer Jesse Lamar High and Nik Harper (LAMAR+NIK). The song is called LAMAR+NIK are famous for their unique character of their videos they created such their work for Pixies’ two latest singles, “Indie Cindy” and “Bagboy.” The video for Recollection is a distinctive piece of theirs as well. The video took place at an abandoned school building, where we follow a middle-aged woman wandering through the deserted classrooms while reminiscing about her days as a student. As she wanders in the building, there are bubbles appearing in various shapes in every room she enters. The message of the video seems to be that our lives are surrounded by memories; everything we do will soon become memories and all we can do is to recollect the memories as much as we can, whether the memory is good or bad. The bubbles that appear in the video reflect that like bubbles, our memories have different forms, too. Another interesting fact about this video is that all the bubbles in the video are real. LAMAR+NIK stated that they did not use computer-generated imagery (CGI) in this video at all. To find out more about LAMAR+NIK’s works, click here.

Takashi Murakami for Shu Uemura Christmas 2013 Collection

The new collaboration between Japanese modern artist and the cosmetic brand entitled just released a 3 minute promotional animation done by the artist himself. The art direction is based on Murakami’s upcoming animation series, which was previewed back in 2010, 6 Hearts Princess. It involves magical girls, or majokko, so think cosplay, animes, mangas, and a series of colorful fantasy explosions when you think about this collection. The concept behind the entire collection is around “dual beauty” of the pink and black princess. A notion that states that every woman has a pink (light) and black (darkness) side in her, nice and naughty, innocent and sexy. Playing with the concept, the make-ups will allow you to freely transform yourself from pink to black, or from black to pink flawlessly. In an exclusive interview to WWD, Murakami said, The 6HP collection launches in November, and if you're a Murakami fan or a makeup junkie, get your wallets and clicking fingers ready. Because the collection will be exclusively available on their USA website early November and the lineup will range from $24 to $75.

W_Music Setlist: Ruins Alone and A Fine Tuning Creation Review

W_Music’s very first attempt at a live session available for the general public went down last Saturday at the art space in Kemang. While it’s tempting to pick an easy route and select more ‘accessible’ and much less ‘difficult’ music for this first foray, being the music snob as I am, I’m personally glad that it wasn’t the case. Featuring two disparate yet extremely gifted musicians in their own right, the charismatic and virtuosic keyboardist in the guise of as well as the insanely talented and incomparable drummer as , the evening was a dedication to music purists and nerds of the capital. Despite a 60-minute delay due to prolonged sound checks, A Fine Tuning Creation kicked off the evening with three stunning compositions presented on his keyboard, assisted by a Korg synthesizer. The first, an ode to his mentor , was a beautiful piece that swivelled and swerved in many directions. Aryo effortlessly utilized strong Javanese sounds, combining it delightfully with the basic jazz and chamber music structures that underlined it.  Doing so would normally easily fall under the realm of ‘corny’, yet Aryo avoided such pitfalls. His second and third compositions were no different in its tranquillity, beauty and complexness, with the former evoking strong East-Asian sounds and the latter returning to its Indonesian roots. After AFTC’s 30 minute set, it was the turn of the Japanese master to enter the fold. And a finer contrast of styles there cannot be. The seasoned virtuoso Japanese drummer –an integral member of a plethora of progressive and avant-garde rock bands and projects- but most notably , , and has over 40 years experience as a drummer, and boy did it show. His half-hour set offered everything from masterful speed drumming, math/prog-rock (and even jazz-rock) style chord riffs, anime references, sequencer madness and far-out vocalisations of something I can’t quite pin point (I doubt he was shouting/singing/scatting in Japanese). In short his outstanding yet sometimes hard to digest set was perhaps avant-garde/noise/prog/math rock’s equivalent to a latter-day Coltrane performance (well to this specific jazz fan’s ears and sensibilities anyway). After the performances the crowd were left either exhilarated, stunned, happy, or a combination of all three. To sum up, it was a very entertaining and educative evening, set in a stunning backdrop of a garden/art gallery (despite the hoards of mosquitoes feasting on everybody). Here’s waiting for more Setlists from the W_Music posse.

The New iPhone 5c

As we all know, Apple recently launched their newest iPhone series: iPhone 5s with the classic iPhone look with three choice of colors: gold, silver and ‘space gray’ along with its sibling; the plastic, curvier iPhone 5c which will be available in four vibrant colors including pink, blue, yellow, green, while they also have the classic color selection of white and black. Since it is made of plastic materials, it will be offered in lower price. Essentially, there won’t be a large distinction between the capabilities of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. The only significant distinction are the materials and the price of these products. On the various color selection of the iPhone 5c, Apple claims the product aims for “the colorful” since they say that color expresses a feeling, makes statement, and so on. But the difference between the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c can be considered as a divider of social classes, regarding to the price differeces. The  blog stated that the color of the phone we choose can indicate the price we are willing to afford for the phone. However, the price for iPhone 5c won’t be  cheap. The 16GB phone will sell for US$ 99, with a two-year contract with the cellular provider. But the unlocked ones will be priced at US$ 549 for the 16GB and US$ 649 for the 32GB phones. According to , if the products enter Indonesia, the price will be so much more expensive. For the 16GB, the estimated price is IDR 10.5 million and for the 32GB ones is IDR 11.5 million. I think that there will be no "social class division" between the owners of iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, considering that the difference between the price of these two products are not so significant. Instead, I think Apple provides customers with more choices to purchase a product that represents themselves. Moreover, the capabilities of these two products are quite similar. These new iPhones have the potential of causing another boom in the smartphone market in Indonesia, since there are so many Apple enthusiasts in this country.

The Kinda Sutra: Misconception About Conception

Academy award winner director delivers a short comedic documentary composed of interviews with people telling us how they thought babies were made when they were kids – from humans being asexual creatures to being delivered by a white angle, this is an 8-minute video you do not want to miss! It’s entertaining, funny, and good at the same time. As a kid, the topic of baby conception is not a topic you speak freely to anyone. And any thoughts you have on the subject, usually when you want to ask someone if it is true, you get embarrassed. It is not spoken about as a child. But when you get older and learn the truth it becomes a humorous thing to talk about. One of the interviewees was even scared at one point of his life to do the number two because he didn’t want to flush down a baby when doing it. Just in case you still do not know how babies are made, skip the video to the end and hear the kids talk. They will explain it to you in the simplest and most innocent manner, like any 5 year old would, how babies are conceived step by step. Jessica worked on this together with illustrator to let the stories told by the interviewees be illustrated and animated. The title must have been taken from the ancient Indian sexual behavior script, the Kama Sutra – hence the Indian looking animation and room setup. Almost everyone has a funny story about how they thought babies were conceived. But the well-respected director of TV series such as Grey’s Anatomy, Jessica Yu, has successfully brought the long forgotten stories we kept to ourselves for many, many years.
