In 2002, Indonesian curator Amir Sidharta published , a homage to Arie Smit as the eldest foreign painters who worked before and after the World War II. The book offers a view of the artist’s vibrant life and career through the collection of his paintings. It contains approximately 500 of Smit’s tens of thousands paintings. Through this book, Smit also wants to share his experience as an artist and inspire the young generation of Balinese artists and collectors. Recently released was the limited, artist-signed and richly-illustrated of. Arie Smit has been a major contributor to Indonesian art, and that makes is a must for collectors and enthusiast in Indonesia.
Adrianus Wilhelmus Smit, better known as Arie Smit, is a seminal Dutch-born Indonesian artist. Smit first arrived in Bali in 1956 and fell in love its landscapes and seascapes that he decided to make the island his permanent home. In the early 1960s, the painter supplied art materials to the youth in the village of Penestanan, Ubud and made them his students. Later, they created a painting style known as “Young Artists” style. Arie Smit found Bali as the right place to express his imagination and Bali has been his main inspiration of his paintings until now.
Bali’s influences in Smit’s paintings can be seen as he often pictures Balinese scenery as the object and uses many different colors. He came from a country with four seasons which the illumination is different from tropical islands like Indonesia especially Bali. The scenery in Smit’s origin country is dominated by monotous colors like grey, black, and white, while the landscapes in Bali are dominated by bright colors. Smit puts the various colors on his paintings of settings in Bali like temples, ricefields, as well as Balinese people. This using of rich colors to paint everyday scenery has been always Arie Smit’s style.
Arie Smit has been a major foreign artist in Indonesia. He received Dharma Kusuma award in 1992 and his works have been displayed in many exhibition including at the East West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and at the CSIS Jakarta.

Mac Demarco started his career in 2008 when he self-released his first album “Heat Wave”. Now Demarco has produced five albums and the latest one, “Salad Days” was released in April 2014. He is known with his soft rock music and rather-sluggard style. His guitar-based compositions create uplifting tunes that are easy to listen. Demarco himself describes his music as a “jizz jazz”. In his latest album “Salad Days, Demarco sounds more relaxed and the tunes are softer compared to his previous albums. Despite that, the gap-toothed Canadian stays with his relaxed music which goes with lyrics, which are relatable to everyday life.
One of Demarco’s advantages is that he is able to make his live performances be as good as the recordings, or sometimes even better. Plus, his slacker style fits his music very well. With plain t-shirts, jeans, and baseball caps, Demarco adds to the impression of his relaxed tunes. Being loose, goofy, and sometimes even raunchy during live performances have been also Demarco’s style. By engaging the audiences, he lightens up the atmosphere and make the crowd have fun.
It seems that his style is what makes him lovable, creating music to express and not to impress. Demarco isn’t the kind of musician who would change and follow trends to raise his popularity. He once said during his interview with The Guardian that as long as his music is making people happy, then why does he have to change anything?

Kramer vs Kramer has a very simple plot: a divorced father fighting for the custody of his son. Director Robert Benton deliveres the story by focusing on the relationship between Ted Kramer (Dustin Hoffman) and his son, Billy (Justin Henry). The film revolves mostly around Ted, a career-oriented man trying to take care of Billy on his own after his wife, Joanna (Meryl Streep), left him. Benton also shows Ted’s struggle to be a responsible father in order to win over the custody of his beloved son. The father-son relationship was shown in one of the most memorable scenes, where Billy has an accident at a playground and Ted has to sprint several blocks through ongoing traffic to bring Billy to the hospital, showing his tenderness and sense of responsibility toward Billy. The film ends with a touching conversation between Ted and Joanna which also adds to the emotional value in Kramer vs Kramer.
Young Meryl Streep and Justin Hoffman did a great job with their roles. Both of them successfully showed the emotions of a couple who fought for the custody of their one and only child. Their acting in this movie were awarded in the 52nd Academy Awards where Dustin Hoffman won the trophy as the Best Actor and Meryl Streep as the Best Supporting Actress. Kramer vs Kramer was nominated in 9 categories and won 5 of them in total including Best Picture and Best Director.
Ted Kramer is a career man for whom his work comes before his family. His wife Joanna cannot take this anymore, so she decides to leave him. Ted is now faced with the tasks of housekeeping and taking care of himself and their young son Billy. When he has learned to adjust his life to these new responsibilities, Joanna resurfaces and wants Billy back. Ted, however, refuses to give him up, so they go to court to fight for the custody of their son. ()

4 years? That long? I didn't count hahaha .I guess I've been busy on "Rise and Start Again" journey all this time.. Because my first album brought me to every moments, stages, joy, ups and downs and I didn't even count that 4 years. And of course also I was busy preparing this ep and my 3rd album.

Son of another Indonesian great, multi-instrumentalist-Jack Lesmana, Indra Lesmana is a child prodigy who learned how to master the keys at a young age, with his first performances done at the age of ten to an audience of hundreds and thousands, and his first album released when he was 12 years old. From child to adulthood, Indra Lesmana has dedicated his life to music.
With currently over 50 albums released, his musical endeavors are not restricted to jazz, Indra Lesmana has also released a multitude of critically acclaimed pop records, winning a BASF Award for his meaningful pop numbers. Currently busy promoting the first LLW record, LLW being his modern jazz trio with bassist-Barry Likumahuwa and drummer-Sandy Winarta, Indra Lesmana spared some time our of his busy schedule to talk to W_Music about some highlights from his three decade-long career, LLW, and leaves the viewers and aspiring musicians some words of wisdom.
