Furthermore, do in my column published last year.

Whiteboard Journal had the opportunity to visit the opening of Seks Volume 3 at Waga Gallery, an exhibition featuring the works of 8 artists and curated by Mitha Budhyarto (who was also responsible for curating this exhibition). In her opening remarks, Budhyarto explained her interest in curating the third Seks installment at Waga Gallery after visiting the previous exhibitions, where she became curious of the perspective an all-female ensemble would produce of the subject. She also mentioned that the exhibition took about 3 weeks to put together, a relatively short period of time for the artist to conceptualise and realise their ideas.
What resulted from from Mitha Budhyarto's curiosity is an exhibition that is enjoyable in its brevity. The 8 artists involved illustrated their perspective of sex through forms and subjects that was relatable as well as digestible - perhaps the result of the amount of time the artists had to work with, the familiarity of the subject, and the intimate environment of Waga Gallery. Sex is a subject everyone can relate to, and our reasonably firm understanding of sex enables us to easily enjoy focusing on the aesthetics, as well as appreciate the vantage points the artists decided to take.
Marishka Soekarna's "Menikmati Lubang" ( are three dioramas in wooden boxes that viewers can see through peep holes. Looking through the peephole (the box illustrated with a woman's private part, mouth, and diamond) are what I can only describe as dreamy worlds with flowers and figurines, the surreal combination of objects conveying feelings. Natasha Gabriella Tontey's video installation, "Vegetable Soup", has the artist observing then chopping various phallic produce on a cutting board, an intimidating sight considering the video's warm and sweet tones as well as Tontey's granny/homemaker-like attire. Sanchia Hamidjaja "Belom" (takes the form of a comic strip where a man situated between a woman's legs does not seem know how to engage in cunnilingus, the woman occasionally looking at her phone from (I assume to be) boredom. "Belom" takes a more lighthearted approach to the sex, using it as a comedic context.
These are but a few examples of the works in Sex Volume 3 (you can view more via the images above). Even in its brevity, the exhibition not only displayed the artists' talents but also their perspectives. The diversity in point of views and modes to communicate those point of views instantly became a highlight of this event, making an exhibition that is fun to explore and discuss. Hopefully we will see future exhibitions with the same zest.
If I were to point out the highlights of Barefood's EP “Sullen” then it would definitely be its catchy tunes and incisive distorted guitar sounds. Three years after their first demo release in 2010 and the intense live gigs in between, Barefood's EP “Sullen” has finally been released last September 2013.
Consisting of two high school friends Ditto and Mamet, Barefood is a group influenced by the 90's alternative rock bands. Its first EP “Sullen” is a collaborative project with Anoa Records, a local independent label.
Compared to the songs in their Demo, the tracks in Sullen do not have many of subtle distinctions in terms of the music's atmosphere. However, the tracks in Sullen are far more enjoyable and well-developed. opens the EP with the catchy “You don't have to show your anger” and from that we will be given the continuous memorable tunes throughout the 23-minute CD. The additional woman's voice (Putriani Mulyadi) in is impeccable in giving a soft touch in the slower-paced track. is an upbeat closer that starts out pretty slow with less noisy and dirty bass and then goes up to a more dominant guitar playing towards the end, especially in the last one minute where Ditto successfully awes listeners with his impressive guitar playing. Just like how “Perfect Colour” is the perfect opening that attracts listeners to stay put with its catchy tune, “Droning” is also a great track to end the EP as it will leave the listeners mesmerized and crave for more.

The Acehnese Hip Hop DJ Dangerdope a.k.a Rencong invited his old friend MC Eloops into performing in the 75th The Wknd Session! With his Akai MPCs and vinyl turntable, Dangerdope's performance was intense and was the perfect companion to MC Eloops' recital of WS Rendra's critical social commentary poems. One could really expect a stunning combination of spoken literature and hip hop from their performances.
Long before Dangerdope finally could afford a vinyl, he used to use Indonesian tapes to create his music. Using Indonesian old songs as his samples, Dangerdope hopes that his act could trigger young people to listen to more Indonesian old songs as they will dig up the original music when they're searching for the samples he use.
They are now currently preparing for an album and we're definitely looking forward to it!

Why Fancy Pants? As me and Fat Cat Ffonz were joking around (it was a jolly good time) the phrase "Fancy Pants" was mentioned, and as this is a very catchy phrase it was all I can think about while making this mix. No theme to be found here involving luxurious pantalons, just the usual goodness that is music. We start of with one of the greatest Galt Macdermot composition followed by great Brazillian tunes, head bopping hip hop hits, a bit of jazzy jazz ditties, and a whole lot of good clean fun (there are some dirty as F*#@ rock tunes as well, wawaweewa!). Enjoy the variety!
