July 25th was a big day for Indonesian reggae. The self proclaimed "Reggae Ambassador", Ras Muhamad, released his latest album with internationally-known German label, Oneness Records. The first reggae collaboration of its kind with the label, not only does the album have the warm production of Oneness, but also features international guest features including Uwe Kaa and Sara Lugo from Germany, as well as Kabaka Pyramid from Jamaica.
To promote the record, a music video for "Lion Roar" and a Salam Megamix have been released. In the Ignatius "Igor Saykoji" Penyami & Tessy Penyami-directed Lion Roar, Ras Muhamad sings about a run-down building as he lyrically breaks down the strength of the Rastafarian symbol of the lion and uses it to relate to everyday urban life. The Salam Megamix gives listeners a preview of the album's content, which sounds excellent to this editor. Over a series of roots rhythm, Ras Muhamad shows finesse not only lyrically (hip hop heads will probably enjoy it), but also with his cadence and language - switching between syllable-heavy flow to more melodic wails in an instant. Take a look at the video above and listen to the megamix below.
