Mondo Gascaro – Saturday Lights

It was an unfamiliar sight of the Santa Market (Pasar Santa) as we went up its rusty stairs to find Mondo’s listening party on the top floor. For this night, what used to be the sound of traders bantering amongst each other was replaced with the sound of Mondo’s guests talking to one another and records playing in the background. With just a few of its stalls open including two record stores and a coffee shop, it sets the right mood for the listening party. After everyone gathered to listen to Mondo’s new single “Saturday Night”, we found a quiet place to chat with the man himself in the dark hallways of the market. “Saturday is a day of celebration, Sunday is a day for rest. It’s a romantic song, and it is more about the celebration of life and romanticism,” said Mondo, explaining the inspiration behind his new single Saturday Light. “ I imagine it’s Saturday evening, I see my self standing on top of a hill, looking at the ocean, feeling the wind against my body”. Mondo has always been known for someone who is more involved behind the scene. His works includes producing albums for artists such as Payung Teduh, Ayushita and Noh Salleh. Now after his two-year hiatus, he is ready to take on his new project with Ivy League Music. “I still involve a lot of people in this, but the brainstorming process is very different,” explained Mondo, “I have to take all responsibilities and I am the decision maker from the beginning to the end”. Friday was also Mondo’s birthday, a fine way to celebrate with his friends and fans alike. Saturday Light is just a teaser of what’s coming. The album is planned to be released early next year, however, Saturday Light is available for listening online and soon on a 7-inch vinyl. - Article written by: Emir Prasetyo

#WJournalist: #OURINDONESIA

It is always a pleasure to see the world through another person's point of view, and through our latest program, #WJournalist, we were lucky enough to have you share your perspective through photography. As we celebrate Indonesia's independence day in August, we asked you what do you think of Indonesia, and we were treated to a lot of great photos through the hashtag #OURINDONESIA. So how does one describe Indonesia? Some of the contributors described our country through a series of , such as this one took of a Raja Ampat waterside (as well as his feet) on a what seems like a very fine day: This picture, taken by , shows a beautiful traditional village in Flores called Bena village: @Ario_Laksono tagged us in a bunch of photography, this one stood out as he describes Jakarta in his comment as "padat dan mahal" (congested and expensive): Some, such as , took the time to announce his love for the country despite its faults with pictures of activities such as this of an Independence Day Panjat Pinang Game with the description "Selamat hari kemerdekaan republik Indonesia.. Se error" nya negara ini, Saya tetap bangga jadi warga negara Indonesia.." (Happy Independence day, Indonesia, as "error" as this country is, I'm still proud to be a citizen." The people of Indonesia also became a subject. This picture with the caption "Smile like teen spirit" by shows a smiling older man: @tbthprchy shows an old man pushing his wheelchair in Solo with the Keraton wall as its backdrop, along with the caption "Legowo": We could not get enough of people's expressions. Here is one by @nikos150: @hilmihoi brought a bit of nostalgia with a photo of Ice Drop Blitar logo: Bamboo Twist's @Mar_Galo says "There's always a (much) cheaper alternative to taxis." Another photo by @ario_laksono shows a man sleeping on the floor of a train with a sheet of newspaper covering his face. @bibirjahe took a solemn photograph of a blankon resting on a shelf with the caption "Heritage was partly identity, partly upbringing" Indonesia is quite colorful, and this photograph of hand-woven fabrics by @clarysha really expresses that vibe: Finally, this photo by @ngelangeli of two people on a jeep headed to a wide and beautiful unknown pretty much sums up Indonesia for us: "Indonesia = Adventure" -- Thank you very much to all who participated in the first #WJournalist campaign (the photographs were amazing!) as well as you who took the time to look at the pictures in this post. We will have another next month, and we hope to see more great pictures!
