Lengger Laut

Lengger Laut Choreographer: Otniel Tasman Sunday, June 07, 2015, 08:00 PM Teater Salihara Lengger Laut tells of Dariah, the last male Lengger dancer. In the current presentation, the dance—usually performed by female dancers—is performed by six male dancers. Lengger Laut is also an attempt to revive and develop Lengger Lanang. Otniel Tasman is a choreographer graduated from ISI Surakarta. His works explore Banyumas traditions, through contemporary sensibility. Otniel has worked with other choreographers and directors, such as Wahyu S.P., Suprapto Suryodarmo, Sardono W. Kusumo, Daryono, Eko Supriyanto, Atilah Soeryadjaya, Boby Ari Setyawan, and Fitri Setyaningsih.

This point in time provides inspiration for people to contemplate many things in a deeper, more meaningful way: the anxieties of old age, longing for loved ones, resignation in the face of death. Benny Krisnawardi is a choreographer and IKJ graduate. Benny has collaborated with a number of choreographers and dance groups, including Ong Keng Sen (Singapore), Gerard Mosterd (the Netherlands), Gumarang Sakti Dance Company, Institut Kesenian Jakarta Dance Company, Indonesia Dance Company, and Deddy Luthan Dance Company.

Gems of Java / Permata Jawa

The 2015 Salihara Dancefest Gems of Java / Permata Jawa Director and Writer: Atilah Soeryadjaya Wednesday-Thursday, June 03-04, 2015, 08:00 PM Teater Salihara Gems of Java is a presentation that consists of macapat reading, gamelan ensemble and Samparan Matah Ati dance. The macapat text is taken from the work of Mangkunegara IV (1811-1881), while the gamelan ensemble serves as a bridge that connects Indonesian gamelan sounds with contemporary Asian and Western sounds. Meanwhile, Samparan Matah Ati is a dance that fuses the vocabularies of traditional choreography with modern theater elements. Atilah Soeryadjaya is a choreographer and traditional art activist who is part of the traditional circles of Mangkunegaran Palace, Surakarta. In 2010, she successfully staged Matah Ati in Singapore, followed by Ariah in Jakarta in 2013. In addition, Atilah Soeryadjaya will conduct a public workshop on Javanese traditional dance.
