Studio Ghibli memiliki pesan rutin setiap memasuki tahun baru yang biasanya berupa sebuah gambar. Pada awal tahun 2021, mereka menyebarkan pesan tersebut dengan tema ilustrasi virus Corona untuk para fansnya.Gambar tersebut dibuat langsung oleh direktur sekaligus pendiri Studio Ghibli, yakni Hayao Miyazaki. Pesan tersebut dipublikasikan melalui akun Twitter baru dari Studio Ghibli. Karena 2021 merupakan “Year of the Ox” atau Tahun Kerbau, maka ilustrasi yang dibuat oleh Hayao Miyazaki pun memampangkan seekor kerbau yang menginjak mati karakter berupa virus Corona yang mengenakan masker.

“We would like to extend our sincere greetings to all of you and thank you for always supporting Studio Ghibli. Last year, for Studio Ghibli, we had more opportunities than usual to interact with everyone, through the TV broadcast of Goro Miyazaki’s latest work, Earwig and the Witch, the re-screening of four works including Spirited Away, the free distribution of still images, and full-scale digital distribution worldwide. In a world where we continue to practice self-restraint due to coronavirus, we hope we were able to make you all smile, even if only a little bit.” ucap pihak Studio Ghibli.

Pesan tersebut juga berhubungan pada ulang tahun Miyazaki yang ke-80 tahun, pihaknya menambahkan, “Director Miyazaki is still fine and is working on the production of the new movie How Do You Live? every day.”
