Golden Globe Awards kembali hadir tahun ini. Sebuah gelaran yang diusung oleh Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) untuk mengapresiasi industri film dan program televisi di Amerika Serikat dan internasional, acara ini juga dianggap sebagai pembuka gelaran penghargaan tahunan yang akan berpuncak pada Academy Awards. Oleh karena itu, Golden Globe sering dijadikan penanda atau kunci utama musim penghargaan untuk memprediksi siapa yang akan naik pada perburuan Piala Oscar dan banyak trofi lainnya.

Di penghujung tahun 2022 ini, HFPA telah mengumumkan sederetan nominasi untuk gelaran Golden Globe 2023. Beberapa nama yang muncul sebagai nominasi menjadi bahasan hangat bagi penikmat industri film dan televisi Amerika Serikat. The Banshees of Inisherin, sebuah dark tragicomedy tentang persahabatan yang hancur saat perang saudara Irlandia, memimpin nominasi untuk Golden Globes 2023.

Selain itu, terdapat Everything Everywhere All at Once, sebuah film science fiction inovatif yang terbentang di multiverse, bersaing dengan enam nama lain di belakangnya. The Fabelmans, sebuah semi-otobiografi dari Steven Spielberg yang menceritakan tentang masa kecilnya; Babylon, sebuah film yang menceritakan pandangan Rabelaisian terhadap era bisu Hollywood; dan Elvis, sebuah film biografi tentang sang legenda musik rock, semua nama tersebut masuk ke dalam lima nominasi besar

Tidak seperti Oscars, Golden Globes memisahkan komedi dan musikal dari drama, memungkinkan sebuah grup (film atau program) meraih lebih dari satu penghargaan. Sebagai contoh, penghargaan untuk film terbaik seperti The Fabelmans dan Elvis tidak termasuk ke dalam nominasi musikal, meskipun berisi musik selama hampir 2 jam.

Hal yang menjadi sorotan terbesar pada Golden Globes tahun ini adalah hadirnya dua auteur yang mendapat banyak pujian yakni, Sarah Polley (Women Talking) dan Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Woman King) di antara pria dalam kategori Best Director.
