Piala Oscar telah mengumumkan daftar nominasi mereka pada 8 Februari 2022 pukul 20.18 WIB. Nominasi-nominasi ini merupakan hasil kumpulan voting dari 9,847 Academy member dari 27 Januari hingga 1 Februari. Beberapa nominasi ternama di dalam daftar ini termasuk The Power of the Dog, yang mendapatkan 12 nominasi, termasuk Best Actor untuk Benedict Cumberbatch, dan juga nominasi Best Actress pertama untuk Kristen Stewart atas penggambarannya menjadi Diana, Putri Wales di Spencer.

Nominasi tahun ini pun cukup mengejutkan dalam snubs terhadap sejumlah figur-figur ternama, termasuk Lady Gaga dan Jared Leto untuk penampilan mereka di House of Gucci, dan karya terakhir Wes Anderson, The French Dispatch.

Di antara nominasi-nominasi untuk Best International Feature, Drive My Car karya Ryûsuke Hamaguchi dan Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom karya Pawo Choyning Dorji telah lolos shortlist nominasi untuk kategori ini, dengan kedua film tersebut berasal dari Jepang dan Bhutan.
