ASEAN Literary Festival is back with its third episode on 5-8 May 2016, at Taman Ismail Marzuki Jakarta.

Building on the huge success of the first ASEAN Literary Festival in 2014 and 2015, adopting the theme of democracy and human rights under the banner of “Anthems for the Common People”, and “Questions of Conscience”, the 3rd ASEAN Literary Festival in 2016 will take on how ASEAN’s literary works and its authors respond and adapt to the current global system with theme “The Story of Now.”

From the beginning the committee believe that literature should stand with human rights. This year ASEAN Literary Festival dedicates many programs on pressing human rights issues. From refugee and exile stories to death penalty. Featuring prominent human rights lawyer Julian McMahon, one of best Indonesia’s writers Leila S. Chudori and prominent scholar Hikmahanto Juwana.
