When backpackers visit a small village in rural Laos they search for unspoiled culture, while the inhabitants of the village discover the attractions of the West. Two worlds meet. One is longing for authenticity, the other for modernity. The documentary enables us to look at the implications of the tourist industry for the rural locals. Their encounter leaves no one unchanged and tells how we relate to each other in a rapidly changing world.
