Azuma Makoto, seorang flower artist asal Jepang dan pendiri JARDINS les FLEURS, telah membuka pameran “Mexx” di Museum Sfer Ik, Tulum, Meksiko, yang akan berjalan hingga September tahun ini.

“I feel a spiritual connection to plants and flowers. I feel I am a part of nature. And I want to express flowers’ voices through my artworks,” ujar sang seniman yang besar di Prefektur Fukuoka kepada Vogue.

Dengan konsep pameran yang ia berikan melalui “Mexx”, ia mengatakan bahwa pameran ini tentu akan melalui perubahan-perubahan selama enam bulan ke depan. “In four months it may look totally different because certain flowers are going to bloom. Right now, there are plants that do not have open flowers. So it may be that everything changes. It’s also like life, not everything remains the same, but we are reinventing ourselves.”

Selain koneksi spiritualnya dengan dunia flora, Makoto mengatakan bahwa arsitektur Museum Sfer Ik, yang telah mendapatkan julukan “The Guggenheim of the Jungle”, juga merupakan bagian besar dalam inspirasinya untuk “Mexx”. “It’s made by humans but done in unique dialogue with the jungle. The museum itself feels like an organism, and I wanted to create a new biophilic encounter between species within it that will naturally evolve over time.”
