War Movies in the Contemporary American Culture
Speaker: James I. Deutsch

In Hollywood production of war movies, it seems that we never get bored taking in the United States’ image as the world police. There is always a common enemy that must be fought againt; from the communists, rebel, terrorists up to aliens. The US force will always be present in such battles for so many reasons, aiding those needing help.

However, why does it have to be a movie about war? What has been the real ideology of Hollywood war movies? What about movies depicting the Vietnam War that had put the US troops on the losing side? James I. Deutsch, curator and editor at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, USA, will give a public lecture on war movies in the contemporary American culture.

This lecture will be held in English.
