TUSLAH, whose name originates from the word “toeslag”, an abbreviation of the two Dutch words toetsen/keyboard and slagwerk/drums, is a jazz quartet consisting of piano, synthesizer, hammond organ and drums.
A jazz quartet without a bass instrument – a format which has not yet gained popularity in the country – will give creative impulses to the four musicians who bring in a variety of musical experience from Indonesia, Europe and America.
Riza Arshad and Sri Hanuraga were part of a quartet called W/H/A/T; Elfa Zulham and Adra Karim play together in the Tomorrow People Ensemble (TPE). In addition to the work they do on their individual projects, TUSLAH will give a ‘new color’ to the Jazz scene, combining elements of classical, jazz, blues, funk and rock.
In this edition of Serambi Jazz, they will perform 8 new pieces of original composition and arrangement by one of the quartet members.
