S. Teddy Darmawan is a visual artist who is never content with a single conventional medium. His works—swinging back and forth between two and three-dimensional—are closely related to popular forms, replete with humor and gentle sarcasm.
For this exhibition, Teddy will present china ink drawings on paper. Thematically, he has rediscovered and has further developed motifs found in his prior works, as though collecting his own memories. He makes his drawing on a very long piece of paper hung across the length of Galeri Salihara’s oval wall.
Teddy graduated from the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta. In 2000, he was artist-in-residence at Ludwig Art Forum, Aachen, Germany. Most recently, he exhibited his work,Beyond the Self, at the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, Australia (2011). Meanwhile, his large-scale installation, “The Temple (Love Tank)” displayed at Singapore Art Museum (2010), marked his first entrance into the realm of monumental installation.
