There are a number of good quality local films these days that re-highlight the issue of Indonesianness. Indonesia is seen from a critical point of view: from a football club in religious conflict-ridden Maluku. One movie delves into the problems of Jakarta urban communities, perhaps a small portrait of Indonesian people: a public official who is internally gnawed by corruption, the tension between honesty and hypocrisy, and the religious morality that forces someone to escape from the trap of prostitution.
Komunitas Salihara along with a number of cinematographers will rescreen Selamat Pagi, Malam (2014) by Lucky Kuswandi; Cahaya dari Timur: Beta Maluku (2014) by Angga Dwimas Sasongko—the 2014 FFI’s Best Film; Something in the Way (2013) by Teddy Soeriaatmadja; and Sebelum Pagi Terulang Kembali (2014) by Lasja F. Susatyo.
