It has finally happened! Fat Cat Ffonz and his long-time partner in crime Moustapha Spliff have teamed up together for a long crazy night of hazy mixtape making for W_Music. As one might expect, the result is a mish-mash of sounds: psychedelic ballads, middle-eastern funk, Japanese house, freaky disco, Frank Zappa, weird Dutch poetry (thanks to James Pants) and pretty much everything in between. As you might have noticed, Donald Byrd, the magnificent trumpeter and all round musician passed away last week at the age of 80. In honour of his life and his contribution to music in general and jazz in particular, Fat Cat Ffonz has prepared an hour-long show of his favourite Donald Byrd tracks: from the depths of hard bop up to his funky period and back again.
