Bayu Risa debuted his efforts as a musician in 2010 when he released his very first album, “Rise and Start Again” via Sinjitos Records. Blending the sounds of pop rnb as well as channeling the showmanship of stars such as Michael Jackson, Prince, or more recently, Justin Timberlake, Bayu Risa packages his music under the self-described label of electro. After a four year hiatus from making a record, he is ready to introduce his latest endeavor, “Changes,” a mini album that describes his attitudes and aspiration in music.
It has been 4 years since your debut album “Rise and Start Again” was released, why such a long time gap between albums?
4 years? That long? I didn’t count hahaha .I guess I’ve been busy on “Rise and Start Again” journey all this time.. Because my first album brought me to every moments, stages, joy, ups and downs and I didn’t even count that 4 years. And of course also I was busy preparing this ep and my 3rd album.
Why is the album called “Changes,” and what has changed in your approach to music since your debut?
Changes. I want to be a better person. I want to change everything that needs to be changed. you can feel the story in this mini album..
“Changes” is a mini-album, why not create a full-length instead for your sophomore release, and is there a full-length album in the works?
This mini album is an experimental one. So I put it separately with my 3rd album that still on the works.
The interest in pop-rnb has grown globally the past 2 or 3 years. As this genre is adopted into your own works, have you as a musician felt its impact in your own career, and what sort of appreciation do you feel your type of music receives in Indonesia?
Basicly I love every genre but r’n’b maybe one of my top list. Yes absolutely. I m so glad Indonesia has a various taste of music so that I have a room in their heart
The single off the EP, Changes, features the theme of accepting and facing challenges – a positive message, basically. Is this what we should expect from ‘Changes’, and does it reflect your current personal point of view as well?
I always and I have to send a positive message on every song I sung or wrote cause there’s no reason not to.. Simple. People need it.. And I expect that you can be blessed by every songs (except song number 5 hahahahaha). Yes it does.
