The good folks from The Wknd recently made a trip to Jakarta to document the local scene by way of interviews and performances, and if you follow the Malaysia-based music publication you'll know that they will release the Indonesia project through out the month of November. Excited? You should be!
First released is an interview with the one and only Mr. David Tarigan. The first part of has Mr. Tarigan talking about his Irama Nusantara website, and quite a bit about his experience observing and participating in the independent Indonesian music scene. Do hit the play button and enjoy the interview, and look for part 2 and 3 to come out soon.
Good news, everyone! After exhibiting Toko Keperluan at the Singapore Biennale and releasing the music video for Jirapah's "Crowns" less than 24 hours ago, Anggun Priambodo has just made the Rocket Rain website active and has the film's trailer up for everyone to enjoy.
The Rocket Rain Website is divided into ten parts, with sections including the trailer, the crew and cast, future roadshow dates, press kit, and reviews. One feature that you should try is the where Pak Kancil and Culapo (two of the main characters in the film) will answer your questions about family relations. So far the questions are surprisingly personal and the answers are (not surprisingly) a mixture between heartfelt wisdom and comedy. Click this highlighted link to go immediately to the page, and do send your questions in!
One other section I became curious about is the "Listen" page, where GIF images of animals, people and objects play the film's soundbites when you hover over them. It's a just a little feature that is perhaps unnecessary but quite entertaining, to be honest... spent about 10 minutes just playing them.
Do check out the website, and don't forget to watch the trailer embedded above.

If you live in Singapore or in the surrounding area you will probably know that the 4th Singapore Biennale is currently happening. Established in 2016, the current biennale is organized by the Singapore Art Museum of the National Heritage Board, and its title, "If the World Changes", summarises the theme of response to the speed of transformation we are currently experiencing in Southeast Asia.
One of the artist invited is none other than visual artist Anggun Priambodo, who is exhibiting an installation called "Toko Keperluan" (A Shop for Necessities). Recreating the typical street corner shop and filling it with items that aren't necessities, Anggun comments on consumerism, critiquing the reasoning of our buying impulses. The shop sells anything from vinyl records, puppets, leggings to a boxing helmet. Toko Keperluan isn't simply a for viewing, one can actually purchase what are on display, and according to our photographer, Natasha Gabriella Tontey, visitors are quick to buy the items... so I suppose the visitors' behavior exhibit exactly what Anggun was critiquing.
Be sure to visit the Singapore Biennale and Anggun Priambodo's Toko Keperluan, and do Rocket Rain.

To those in the art world, FX Harsono needs no introduction, as a art activist, he has spent his whole life creatively narrating his life and the culture around him through various art mediums. His sense of inquisitiveness has led him to constantly trace back history and extend a voice towards the oppressed. Whiteboard Journal had a chance to talk to FX Harsono at Dia.Lo.Gue about the exploration of his own identity and what he expects from younger generation of artists.

The last Brightspot Market in Grand Indonesia attracted over whopping 65,000 people over 4 days. There was a huge crowd & traffic + parking was pretty tough on Saturday night & Sunday afternoon. Here are some tips for a pleasant Brightspot:
* Car pool. Go 4 in a car or more. Save parking + it will be more fun & better for the environment
* Come early in the day to beat the crowd & traffic. Stay the whole the day in the mall. There are lots to do: eat, shop some more, eat, see movies, check out Bright Ideas & Imagination Factory
* There will be designated areas for parking in the Danamon Building & ITC. There will be people with pickets. Please park there when needed.
* If you live in the area, walk to Lotte Shopping Avenue : )
