Gems of Java / Permata Jawa

The 2015 Salihara Dancefest Gems of Java / Permata Jawa Director and Writer: Atilah Soeryadjaya Wednesday-Thursday, June 03-04, 2015, 08:00 PM Teater Salihara Gems of Java is a presentation that consists of macapat reading, gamelan ensemble and Samparan Matah Ati dance. The macapat text is taken from the work of Mangkunegara IV (1811-1881), while the gamelan ensemble serves as a bridge that connects Indonesian gamelan sounds with contemporary Asian and Western sounds. Meanwhile, Samparan Matah Ati is a dance that fuses the vocabularies of traditional choreography with modern theater elements. Atilah Soeryadjaya is a choreographer and traditional art activist who is part of the traditional circles of Mangkunegaran Palace, Surakarta. In 2010, she successfully staged Matah Ati in Singapore, followed by Ariah in Jakarta in 2013. In addition, Atilah Soeryadjaya will conduct a public workshop on Javanese traditional dance. Audiovisual with Gundala Pictures

As a relatively new video-making collective, Gundala Pictures stole the attention when they made Pandai Besi's Daur Baur documentary. The unit continues their good work with their rendition of Seaside's Giggle and Blush. Their latest project, "Iblis Jalanan", a short film that built from Bangkutaman's song is a highlight from 2014's local short film. We sit with Dana Putra from Gundala Pictures to talk about music videos and MTV.

Buai (Udara)

Buai (Udara) Indra Zubir’s Dance Choreographer: Indra Zubir Saturday, May 30, 2015, 08:00 PM Teater Salihara Buai (Udara) began from the idea surrounding the mystery of the body (the small universe), where the body’s movements become one with the movement of the great universe. Buai (Udara) presents swaying movements inspired by Tari Buai-buai (Minangkabau traditional dance) and Shuffle (popular dance). To date, Indra Zubir has created more than 25 choreographic works. Together with Indra Zubir’s Dance, he has staged experimental contemporary dance works inspired by Minangkabau traditional dance, modern dance techniques, and popular dance genres.

Palmistry Experiment Bag Project

Celebrating the second anniversary of the brand, UGLY in collaboration with ArtDept_ID and The Goods Dept presents "Palmistry: Experiment Bag Project". Initiated in the year 2013, UGLY is a brand that explores the uncharted concept of beauty. Their search for the idea can be seen on the line of UGLY's product, either bags, clothes, scarfs to necklaces. Each of the series released symbolize a gallant model that symbolize the brand's idea. On their second jubilee, they collaborate with Goods Dept's Art Dept to host an exhibition with a set of bright young artist from the country. Every artist will show their interpretation of the theme that will visualize it on a UGLY bag. The list of the artist participated on the exhibition including: Cut And Rescue, Diela Maharanie, DGTMB, Ghost, Henry Foundation, Monica Hapsari, Nastasha Tontey, Nuri Fatima, Oomleo, Patricia Oentario, Puti Sekar (Derau), Sanchia Hamidjaja, Tromarama, Uji Hahan, and Wiyoga Muhardanto. The exhibition will be held on 29 May 2015 in The Goods Dept Pasific Place Jakarta. MMS, Hogi, Anton, Robot, and Oomleo will also play their tunes on this event.
