Kalam is a cultural journal that has contributed to the Indonesian intellectual sphere for over a decade. This edition will feature four articles by Sapardi Djoko Damono, Ignas Kleden, Manneke Budiman, and Arif Bagus Prasetyo. They will discuss ideas around Indonesianness in literature, as written by Peranakan Chinese writers, Balai Pustaka writers, even contemporary writers.
This launch also features a lecture by Manneke Budiman, who teaches at the Faculty of Cultural Studies, University of Indonesia, Depok. Manneke Budiman will talk about the importance of cultural/literary journals in connection to the intellectual life of our nation.
