Seringai Generasi Menolak Tua

Description:

Meski sekarang udah nggak terlalu sering dengerin Seringai, tapi rasa hormat terhadap dokumenter “Generasi Menolak Tua” ini akan selalu abadi. Film ini masih menjadi yang teratas dalam ranah dokumenter musik lokal. Bahkan sepertinya, di ranah dokumenter lokal yang lebih luas, film ini masih akan menjadi salah satu yang teratas. Alasannya banyak: tapi salah satu yang terbaik adalah bagaimana Seringai menolak untuk tampil keren, di sini, mereka justru tampil bodor. Membuat dokumenter ini sangat-sangat menghibur, tanpa mengurangi bobot band Seringai yang selalu menyuarakan sikap. Trivia kecil yang juga lumayan tai, di belakang packaging DVD ini, alih-alih menulis profil band atau summary film, mereka menulis profil band Ungu. Iya, mereka setai itu.

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich

Description:

Karena ngerjain artikel interview sama Adam Del Deo, Vice President Original Documentary Features Netflix, gue jadi penasaran sama dokumenter ini karena film ini jadi salah satu film yang dia rekomendasiin banget. Gue sebenarnya gak gitu familiar dengan kasus Jeffrey Epstein, cuma sekadar tahu kalau dia jadi dalang sex trafficking underage girls di kalangan elit dunia yang kemudian kasusnya gak terpecahkan karena dia diduga bunuh diri (atau dibunuh, menurut konspirasi yang beredar) sebelum adanya sidang.

Gue baru nonton satu episode, and boy oh boy… Gue gak bisa berenti ngebatin: “Gila”. Film ini gak cuma soal betapa “sakit jiwa” Epstein, tapi juga bagaimana mudahnya menyalahgunakan uang dan kekuasaan. Gak sabar buat nonton episode berikutnya!

Description:

On the surface, it’s a documentary about a soup kitchen in Milan. But it’s not just any soup kitchen, it’s the one initiated by the much beloved Osteria Fransescana-chef/owner Massimo Bottura along with other 40 of the world’s best chefs such as Rene Redzepi, Alain Ducasse, Daniel Humm and many others. How did they manage to come together? We’ve got to thank the 2015 Milan Expo for that.

Anyway, the documentary addresses one of our (still) main issues in the food industry which is food waste. As the soup kitchen itself uses food waste from the Expo, the film answers the question “What if food waste could feed the hungry?” Around 1.3 billion tons of food was thrown away annually around the world—one-third of all food produced, and how could we direct it to the ones who need them the most?

Five years since its release, food waste still is a global problem.

Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records

Description:

There’s nothing that I could do really, apart from watching series, gameplays, movies or sometimes read books/comics/graphic novels and stuff like that. So as soon as I heard about We Are One Global Film Festival, I immediately scrolled through the whole list to find interesting stuff to watch and last week I’ve finally seen Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records. Simply a great docu, well-executed and validated with all the key persons in the scene and why Great Britain wouldn’t be what they are today without the influence of Jamaican roots music. Powerful indeed.

Description:

FIlm dokumenter ini menceritakan tentang Roger Stone, seorang konsultan politik Amerika yang juga menjadi salah satu juru sukses untuk kampanye kepresidenan Donald Trump beberapa tahun silam. Dia cukup dikenal di dunia perpolitikan sebagai salah satu jagoan kalau soal dark campaign.

Menarik banget nyimak berbagai strateginya untuk menjatuhkan pihak oposisi. Selama nonton ini ga habis pikir ada orang yang jalan pikirnya bisa sejahat dan selicik itu, tapi disisi lain juga kagum sama pola pikirnya.

Description:

A very intriguing look at racist memorabilia at the Jim Crow Museum. Walked and talked through by the director of the museum, we get to learn and see the immense number of objects in many shapes and forms that propels the stereotype of black people through time, up until recently (a large share of unflattering merchandise dedicated to Obama). There is the story and memento of how the black face originated. A short, educational watch to learn a bit about Black History. Hopefully after watching this, we know why black face and the N word in any context is just plain racist.

Last week i watched Rudeboy on We Are One’s YouTube Channel. I think it is a good documentary about the history of the most iconic record label in the reggae/ska music scene because the documentary gives a detailed explanation on the birth of Trojan Records and everything is covered really well.
