A beautiful collaboration took place last Friday, 21 January 2011, when the folks from GoodNews Production teamed up with The Company Studio & Homecooking Jakarta and presented the city with a fresh dose of Benji B experience. This London bred DJ has been hosting a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1, the largest radio station in the UK, for many years and has gained attention across the globe. The 32 year old who has been dedicating his life to music came to bless the crowd in Malt, located in Menteng, Central Jakarta, alongside local talents such as Milspex (24SEVEN), Ebby (MELTING POD), and Rei (HOMECOOKING).
Providing Jakarta with the London hybrid sounds, Benji mixed everything from hiphop, dubstep, house, soul, funk, to broken beats and was a party that you didnt want to miss. The perfect fusion of music and people packed into a comfortable venue formulated the ideal atmosphere and vibe for a good night out. This non-sponsored event managed to gather individuals from all corners of the city into one ecstatic fête.
Benji B claims that it was a special trip coming to Indonesia; ever since he was 7 years old he was drawn to traditional Indonesian music like a magnet. Playing, touring, and teaching gamelan across the UK, it took 32 years to finally visit the country of gamelan origin and says that it was a humbling experience. Being a product of London, Benji B says he feels obligated to represent his hometown and has a responsibility to give back locally. By having a monthly event called “Deviation Sessions” in the east side of London, Benji B showcases many well established DJ’s and producers such as Flying Lotus, J Davey, Hi Tech, Dam Funk, and many more. This event has become THE party people look forward to every month. Apart from Deviation Sessions, his radio program on BBC 1 is available online for download for a period of 7 days.
