By Athina Ibrahim, January 16, 2012 · 421 views

If 2011 was filled with blockbuster hits as Drive, Tree of Life to the long awaited Sherlock Holmes sequel, then 2012 will bring more of the fun with many more sequels or even prequels to some of our favorite movies. Here are the list of films to look out for this year.

1. The Dark Knight Rises

Although the legendary Joker played by Heath Ledger may not be in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises, there is still a lot of tense action and punishment awaiting for the final Batman Trilogy, my only question, can sweet Anne Hatthaway pull off being the seductive and intimidating cat woman?

2. Moonrise Kingdom

Put in the A-list stars as Bruce Wills  and Edward Norton and ahve the movie directed by the famous Wes Anderson then you have an interesting movie to lookout for. Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness.

3. Ice Age 4

We know the previous Ice Age trilogy had successfully hit our laugh buttons. But whether they can continue stir up our laughter in the upcoming Ice Age 4 can only be proven this year.

4. Life of Pi

Adapted from one of the best selling novels written by Yann Martel, Life of Pi tells the story of faith as Pi finds himself on a lifeboat with a  450-pound Bengal tiger where he miraculously survived with for 227 days.

5. Snow White and the Huntsman

A darker twist about the classic fable of Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, we find Charlize Theron playing the daunting Ravenna who orders the Huntsman to hunt down the fairest lady of them all, though I’m not quite convinced with Kristen Stewart as Snow White.

6. The Secret Life of Arriety

Renowned writer Hayao Miyazaki brings another heart warming tale about the four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family’s residence, borrowing simple items to make their home.

7. The Women in Black

A young lawyer (Daniel Radcliffe) travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals.

8. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

A prequel to the epic Lord of The Rings that we all love, The Hobbit shares to us the journey of Frodo’s uncle, Bilbo Baggins to claim the treasured ring from the dragon Smaug.

9. Jiro Dreams of Sushi

A documentary into the life of 85 year old Sushi Chef and his relationship with his son and future successor, Sukiyabashi.

10. Django Unchained

A Tarantino movie to look out for this year is Django Unchained, which is about a slave-turned-bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner. The official trailer has not been released and the image above may not be the official poster, but we know the movie will star Joseph Gordon – Levitt, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Sacha Baron Cohen.
