Hello everyone, how are you? Before we start our new lesson today, I want to share the function of this media. Lesson 101: is our new regular way to share random facts or studies about a lil things that maybe never occur in your mind but might interesting / important to know. Don’t take it too serious, let’s have a fun discussion with others after reading this, and you might find new surprising or ridiculous answers. Enjoy!

Have you ever wonder why women’s buttons are on the left hand side and men’s are on the right? (sometimes you get both now).

Here’s the answers:

There some ergonomic reasoning behind it since ladies started buttoning or using hooks and eyes to fasten their clothes. In the 19th century, well-heeled Victorian women generally didn’t dress themselves, so their buttons were designed to be handled by right-handed servants. Although wealthy men may have had servants to lay out their clothes, they generally dressed themselves so their garments were made easier to button themselves – so the buttons on the right side of men’s garments made more sense.

There’s another believe that in the past, first button jackets for men were modeled after the latching designs of armor, which were designed to stop a right-handed opponent from jamming a pike through the seam. While left-side buttons on women’s clothes may have been intended to facilitate nursing an infant on the side closest to the woman’s heart. We can see the fact on how baby feels more comfortable when it fed on the left side, cause it can hear the mommy’s heartbeats.

Hey but we never know, maybe they just decided that the buttons must be on the opposite side for men and women in order to make it easier for them to undress each other! sneaky…

Enough for today, have a nice weekend!
