Sigi Wimala is a name widely known in the modeling industry. Starting her career as a model in one of Indonesia’s famous teen magazine, she then shifted her gear to explore the film industry. From acting in various films, to name a few: ‘Tentang Dia’, ‘ Rumah Dara’ and ‘Affairs’ to directing her own short film titled ‘Gay/Tidak’ (Gay/Not). Recently married to one of the Mo Brother’s director, Timo Cahyanto, we were curious to know if this mom-to-be will pass on her appreciation of motion pictures to her child. Therefore, we asked her five movies she would recommend to her child. These were her answers:
Gimme 5 movies that you will recommend your child to watch
1. An American Tail (1986)
Sweet tale about family, struggle and hope. Plus I have a soft spot for film about immigrants.

2. Monster Inc. (2001)
Definitely a feel good movie with a huge cup of sentimentality. It’ll helps kids conquer their fears of monsters (here monsters are portrayed cute and lovable). One of Pixar’s best animated film.

3. Spirited Away / Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (2001)
It’s deep, yet not preachy. Enchanting and heartwarming. There’s also that asian mystical element. It will give the kids another visual experience they could not find in Disney’s or any Hollywood animated films.

4. Mary Poppins (1964)
A classic, with great sing-a-long songs. Gives you an adventure without any ‘dark side’ cause it’s light and cheerful all the way.

5. Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
As kids we all go through our ‘imagination gone wild’ phase. Basically, it has a very simple storyline. Kids and adults will relate to the kid’s anger. But at the end we always seek comfort provided by our true love ones, our family. I always love the simple picture book, but Jonze did a great job with the feature.
