When I confessed to the people at work that I had no recognition of the name Anthony Bourdain or his show whatsoever, I was immediately shunned with the I-can’t-believe-you-don’t-know-who-he-is look. Their shock to my inquisitiveness was as if I was asking them where this year’s world cup would be held. But from their reaction, I got the idea that Anthony also known informally as Tony was someone heavily worshiped for his show. To feed my curiosity I was left with no explanation but to watch his show ‘No Reservation’. And I had to admit after just an episode or two; it’s hard not to grow a liking for Anthony Bourdain. His wit, his culinary expertise and his somewhat daring persona (shown from his explicit usage of profanity) is the crème de la crème of the show, he’s nothing near to being pretentious and his satirical style proves himself to be a true New Yorker.
So who exactly is Anthony Bourdain? Initially Anthony Bourdain was an executive chef for many years, a graduate from the Culinary Institute of America. He first gained public recognition from his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly, eventually after 28 years he left the kitchen scene to gain a more worldly experience on food by being the host of Travel Channel’s culinary and cultural adventure program Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.
To sum up who he is, Anthony Bourdain: he writes, he travels, he eats… and man, does he have one of the best jobs in the world.
