Last week, designer James Victore invited 8 young designers on a 5 day learning experience in his Brooklyn workshop, in an event he calls The Dinner Series . The artist stated this training session aims to be a gathering of people, each with a small spark that when brought together create a bonfire to be seen miles away. Although teaching at a university, Victore claims to not use the academic approach, instead it will be more of a thinking exercise, focusing on ideas and design statements rather than teaching aesthetics.

Victore is an American author, designer, and filmmaker. He runs an independent studio, and is active in teaching, giving lectures, and workshops. On 2010 he published a book about teaching graphic design and a survey on his works, titled Victore, or Who Died and Made You Boss?. Other than the Dinner Series, he also created Take This Job and Love It, a one-day session held annually of what he described as an event where you access a higher level of badass-dom.

The Dinner Series will take 5 days, starting from 9am to 10pm. Each day will start with a breakfast at the workshop, continued by about two hours of brainstorming and assignments, resumed by a healthy lunch and another three hours of work, then dinner at a private Tribeca loft prepared by renowned chefs from New York. The dinner will be joined by special guests from big names in the creative industry. On last week’s session designers such as Stefan Sagmeister, Gary Hustwit, and Martin Glaser joined the dinner for a nice evening of conversation and good food.

This year, the event will be held twice, with the second session on July 16th to 20th. Participants are limited to 8 guests on a first-come first-served basis. The session costs $6.000 and for other details, click here.

The menswear brand from Jakarta, QUB, recently released QUBtv; an online television network showcasing local talents from anything related to music, art, cutting-edge entertainment, interviews, and everything in between.

One of the programs from the network is Space, Interrupted: a show that features local music performances that took place in uncommon surroundings. The idea is to offer a piece of musical entertainment in unfamiliar contexts as a challenge for the artists, as well as to give viewers a different perspective on enjoying music; an effort to explore the possibilities of interaction between the context, performer, and the audiences. The show also aims to document and promote the new names from the local music scene. So far names like Sir Dandy, Luky Annash, Swimming Elephants, Kunokini, Hightime Rebellion, and L’Alphalpha have participated in the show, performing in various places such as a toilet shop, a day-care center, and in the middle of Sudirman Road.

The first show will premier this month on the website, meanwhile we can check out a teaser featuring names from the scene such as Wendi Putranto and Hasief Ardiasyah from Rolling Stone Indonesia, and record collector David Tarigan.

Colour in Clay is a 1941 short film released by the British Council Film. This 10 minute film is basically a documentation about the production line of pottery inside the Wedgwood company.

First we are introduced to scenes of greenery in England, with mild colored flowers subtly moving along with the wind. Then the narration takes us to a factory with skilled men and women working in the production line. Then we are shown the different processes they went through to create different products. Plates, cups, vases, are all created by hands with different kinds of methods; molding, sculpting, and carving. The product are later painted with finishing to get it’s glossy texture, and drawn with pictures of flowers we see earlier, using a free-hand technique (yes, they’re magically drawn by hand by fairies!).

The film’s orchestral scoring and narration was of a very common style at the time (the intro reminded me of 40s Tom and Jerry Cartoons I used to watch as a kid… well I still do actually). The commentary tells what goes on behind this ‘modern’ ceramics, but the only thing modern about the process seen is the fact that the driving of the wheel in the pottery machine is powered by electricity, the rest is in the hand of the craftsmen working in the factory. To us living in the digital world, these craftsmen are artist!

First built as a caviar warehouse, The Cassowary Room is now a refurbished single space in a Tribeca loft. The caviar boss’s office is not modified much, only modernized with wifi and air-conditioning. Authentic woodwork and conventional lighting are the perfect collaboration in creating the most suitable ambiance. The dutch doors for the private office is designed to be versatile, so it can be entirely closed, or can be linked to other spaces. Aside from offices, this room can also be altered into children’s playroom or relax area. Check out here for more details about The Cassowary Room.

“The Way I Dress” is an impeccable video series that showcases men dressing up before doing their daily activities. Several well-know names such as Douglas Friedman, Sean Avery, David McAlmont, David Macklovitch, Euan Reille, and Waris Ahluwalia had starred in it. What’s interesting is that Chris Floyd, as the director of this series, chose various gentlemen from diverse lines of work: actor, designer, musician, etc. Each of the actors is also the narrator of the film, presenting the story-telling in simple manner. Floyd’s films are decently presented in both black/white and color for around three minutes. This series reveals not only about fashion, but also how men dress themselves.

The singer of We Found Love, Rihanna got a chance to get shot by the famous photographer, Terry Richardson. Rihanna shot with crop-top tee, denim shorts, and stiletto. This 24 year old looks really stunning and sexy while she got shot in Terry’s studio. And what I loved is the signature of Terry Richardson is his using monochromatic and wrapped into black and white colors. Richardson has always been able to capture images that both shows off larger than life personalities while maintaining a raw, grounded character, which is exactly what we can see here. Basically, the images are all simply great! Scroll down to see this hot blonde, Rihanna!

The latest video by HBTV features none other producer Pharrell Williams off N.E.R.D. fame. Shot during William’s visit to Liberatum Hong Kong International Festival of Culture, he sits down and speaks to Hypebeast about what inspires him and his point of view of the world, comparing the US’s penchant to being purists and saying that in Asia people are “naturally eclectic” in their approach to culture. Later on he gives a general tip to people, one that I agree with which is to “keep smart people around you,” saying that having people who are master at their own craft will help challenge your creativity, and them being experts at their particular fields will help you recognize disciplines you haven’t master. My only qualm about this video is that the audio quality is pretty poor, but try to listen to it because Williams’articulating his thoughts is actually quite intriguing.

I’d personally will be jumping around when I see this really cute concept is inspired by the famous app, Instagram. Made by ADR Studio (aka Antonio De Rosa), they present the Instagram Socialmatic Camera Concept. This camera doesn’t only posts images into Instagram but prints directly from the camera, how this camera works is pretty much same like the way Polaroid works. The camera concept also contains some features like Wi-Fi, bluetooth, optical zoom, a 4:3 touchscreen, 16GB of storage, two different lenses, a QR code reader, and webcam funcionality. The users could also print their shots but using the camera’s built-in ink-jet printer and paper tray. The results of the photos are shaped like a Post-It note, so you can directly glue them into your favorite spot, for example your book. Check these cute concept of Instagram, below:
