Yohji Yamamoto Files for Bankruptcy

Yohji Yamamoto Inc. filed for bankruptcy today in Japan in the course of decreasing global sales, but the procedure won’t affect businesses outside Japan. The company has debts of six billion yen, or $67 billion, according to a report in the AP, but under Japan’s corporate rehabilitation law the fashion company may still stay open. Founder and designer Yohji Yamamoto will continue to work, the company said.

The Japanese fashion designer howecer will continue to design the Y3 sportswear line for Adidas AG. Adidas has a “long-term cooperation” with Yohji that is expected to continue, according to Adidas representative.

Mr. Yamamoto himself will continue to lead design and creation at the company as he has done in the past years.
