Checking out my mail last night, I hadn’t stumbled in a few months and I then got an email from Kristina Ortega and Sarah McLellan to announce their new phase, Mctega moved beyond and create a clothing line after a couple years in the game with only jewelry. I was mad thrilled!
The idea for their clothing line was ultimately born out from the goal to symbolically take their previous ideas and evolve with them. Here’s what they said:
“In the collection this happens both literally, with handmade “gems” on clothing, and figuratively, with fabrics and rudimentary “facets”. The fabrics that are made of plastics and silk allude to our previous works in resin. The “facets” refer to the way we employed princess seams to play with the idea of the way gems are formed (a strong element that has shaped our designs in the past). This line also plays with lots of sheer (and in a couple places actually clear) materials. The reason for this being we were coming from a medium of extreme depth and clarity, and had to translate that onto a two dimensional surface. We used lots of gradations in clarity and color to try to achieve this.”
