This lecture series will examine the views of writers, philosophers Voltaire and Goethe, and statesman Sukarno against Islam. Voltaire (1694-1778), French writer and philosopher, known to have a critical view of religion that gave birth to fanaticism and manipulation in the name of religion. One of Voltaire’s play, Mohamet, does not actually tell about the history of the Prophet Muhammad, but an understanding of him on a representation of fanaticism.
