Leine Roebana are a group of modern dancers, established by Andrea Leinde, from The Netherlands, and Harijono Roebana, from Indonesia. Since 1990′s the group has been known and respected by the dancing community in The Netherlands, this encounter between Europe and Asia, the traditional and the contemporary, creates a dynamic of harmony between their dancing and the music. These alumni’s of Kelola, have introduced their latest choreography, titled ‘Ghost Track’ and will be performed in Salihara Theater, the idea of ‘Ghost Track’ sprouted from an Indonesian instrument that is ‘Gamelan’, the pair described that Gamelan has a distinct sound and it challenged them physically. This performances also involves Iwan Gunawan as a composer, who has his roots in traditional art and music of Sunda, yet a deep knowledge of Western contemporary music. Ghost track is a journey, undertaken by dancers with different culture backgrounds, who explores themselves through their own identity and the music.

Sound Garden – a solo exhibition by Arya Pandjalu brings us to the woodland world. The Bandung-based visual artist is renowned for his human bird signature artwork, Pandalu’s concept of displaying birds as his “alter-ego” goes back to his adolescence, not only displaying a man’s connection with nature, but it also relates with the artist’s experience with the forests of Bandung. Sound Garden displays the romantic human relationship with nature, but it also criticizes the modern civilization and their damage to the natural world.

Pandjalu has participated in the Landing Soon Residency programme at Cemeti Art House, Yogyakarta, Phone Number My Hand (Solo Exhibition), Lost (Andergrond, Den Haag), ChiChitChuit (Parkir Space, Yogyakarta) and his prescence in the Jogja Biennale XI: Shadow Lines (2011).

Sound Garden will be based on the human bird concept, combined with Pandalu’s relation with the art of music. Objects from nature and industrial waste are a few of the materials used in the artwork.

The exhibition will present the human bird adventure.
Sound Garden will begin tonight, at Ark Gallery, Jakarta.
