The name Kutmah has been pinging back and forth with some regularity on the ‘interweb’ this past year. As a beat maker based in L.A, part the new ‘post hip hop’ clique of (mainly) West Coast producers, his name has been hyped up (quite reasonably) by everyone from California’s Stones Throw to Britain’s electronic music fiends at Warp Records.
More interestingly (if not tragically), the half-Egyptian/ half-Scottish Kutmah (Justin McNulty) had himself deported from his Los Angeles abode, back to the country of his birth, Britain. A move that has initiated groups like FREE KUTMAH and countless of articles in support of the artist. Read Los Angeles Weekly’s write-up on the Kutmah ordeal here!
Yet last week, local Amsterdam spinner, DJ Aardvarck gave me a quite superb Kutmah mixtape entitled ‘From Cities to Mountaintops’ which you can listen to through the link below.
