Living a life as a global nomad can be both a blessing and a curse, a blessing because it’s a rare opportunity to be able to live and be involved in one’s culture. But a curse as you will encounter moments where you question your identity of origin. That disconnected feeling is what Sayaka Kajita Ganz tries to explore in her sculptures, as she reminisce her experiences of growing up in several different countries, she began to search for a new community where she belonged in.  Her sculptures are the exact portrayal of her search, she uses discarded objects as plastic utensils, toys and metal pieces from people’s houses and give them a second life, a new home.

Sayaka’s objective is to give life to objects that people discard. She does it by integrating her objects into an animal form that gives a form of regeneration and life into it. Through her work, she tries to understand the fundamentals of human relationship, a profound concept she lives by to: “when there is conflict right now, there is a way for all the pieces to fit together”, furthermore she confirms that in amidst of all the uncertainty and aloofness, eventually people will find a place where they truly fit in.
