A former punk rocker and studio artist turned architect, Robert Stone has designed and constructed a vacation home unlike any vacation homes I’ve ever seen before. The Rosa Muerta or “Dead roses”, as he named it, is located at the outskirts of Joshua Tree National Park just among the barren desert hills of Southern California. This all-black obelisk provides a desert sanctuary for those who need an escape from the city of Los Angeles or in Stone’s own term “Glamping”, an experience for glamorous camping. As for the architecture itself, Stone designed it to be an open-air structure with a dead simple layouts consists of a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room complete with fire pit and foot spa. Needless to say it’s all in black, the walls, ceiling, floor, stove, microwave, fridge, faucets, cabinets, light sconces, glass sinks, night stands, towels, bedspread, all the way down to toilet. According to the architect, the all-black palette allows the resident guests to enliven the space, “Black is a foil,” Stone explains. “People are the color, they’re what bring it to life.” I assured you a getaway to Rosa Muerta is sure to be unlike any other vacation experience and for $200 a night, it’s a bargain i reckon.
