Free Times Industries is a multidisciplinary experimental studio that design and develop innovative, responsibly-made daily objects: furniture, housewares, and personal accessories that are functional and yet still fascinating. Each designer brings their unique personality and perspective to every project.

More than just products, the studio aims to contribute ideas to the design culture. One of their projects, Faraday, perfectly shows their angle of lean. It is a system that consists of a serving maple tray and glass wares. The glass vessel is both a tea maker and a tea container, successfully merges the daily task of preparing tea with the social experience of consuming it. It uses induction technology that allows tea to be prepared on the table without stoves, and neither the tray nor the wares on top of it will get hot, thus giving the owner (and his/her company) longer time to enjoy their tea and conversation. And even without all the sophisticated system, it is still a beautiful object.

The other projects are similar in a way with Faraday. They’re all imaginative and innovative ways of thinking presented elegantly. The secret behind Free Time Industries is that the studio is purely driven by the passion of the designers. They use the platform to explore and experiment the ways design could contribute to their society. Their work with Free Time Industries isn’t paid: it’s done in their free time—hence the name. Though all these may sound too utopian, Free Time Industries have proven that they’re not just some unattainable concept. Their products have been exhibited, published on the media, garnered awards, and sold at fairs; raised revenues from which the studio funded itself to develop even further.
