The Siwa collection was started sometime around last year by renowned Japanese industrial designer, Naoto Fukasawa in collaboration with Paper industry veteran manufacturers in Yamanashi called Onao. The collection developed from a single paper material called Hiroshi Nao, a much stronger paper material than a normal one.

You have to feel and handle it yourself to understand the strength and durability of the paper, but it stated that the material can hold weight up to 10 Kg. Siwa means wrinkle in Japanese (and is also “washi” written backwards in Japanese), The lineup of products includes tote bags, lighting, book cover and reusable envelopes that look totally unique.

While on the subject, do check the designer interview with Designboom.com here.
