And onto the third installment of BBC’s Soul Deep series. This particular episode delves with the turbulent sixties and the role Motown Records in Detroit played amongst all the upheaval. Also featured are Chicago‘s Chess Records, home to luminaries such as Muddy Waters, Etta James, Chuck Berry and Minnie Ripperton to name just four. As with all the series, it’s a highly enjoyable and educative watch. Enjoy!

“The Way I Dress” is an impeccable video series that showcases men dressing up before doing their daily activities. Several well-know names such as Douglas Friedman, Sean Avery, David McAlmont, David Macklovitch, Euan Reille, and Waris Ahluwalia had starred in it. What’s interesting is that Chris Floyd, as the director of this series, chose various gentlemen from diverse lines of work: actor, designer, musician, etc. Each of the actors is also the narrator of the film, presenting the story-telling in simple manner. Floyd’s films are decently presented in both black/white and color for around three minutes. This series reveals not only about fashion, but also how men dress themselves.

Founded by art director Matt Driscoll, the shop uses a lot of local materials to create modern furnitures with simplistic design.

On it’s latest project, Bellboy created this sleek piece of furniture made of redwood material which was reclaimed from a water tower in New York. The shape appears to be originated from the movement of water in the lake, translated into symmetrical shape for your seating needs. The materials and shape is a respond to the ecological issue which the shop have been consistently dealing with, as well as to the needs in a multi-functional space.

The brilliant painter KAWS a.k.a. Brian Donelly just displayed his series of paintings in an exhibition entitled “The Nature of Need” at Galerie Perrotin, Hong Kong. The gallery presents one of the largest vertical displays of KAWS and over 50 vertical rectangles along the wall. KAWS considered this exhibition as part of growth and progression throughout his line of work. As a bit modification to his whole career, KAWS had worked on his recent collaborative projects with Hennessy and Ikepod. This talented creator who has been painting his whole life always does every painting with incredible technical aspect of the shading, the proportions, and perspective. The reason behind this whole perfection is that he applies his entire focus to his work. It is the subtlety in paintings that he wants to show to people. With his two assistants, he’s pretty capable of managing all of his work.

If you have seen Ju-on or any of its sequels then this should be a treat. Katasumi and 4444444444 by director Takashi Shimizu is the precursor to the modern legend of Ju-on. Commissioned by Kansai Telecasting Corporation, Katasumi and 4444444444 two short films Shimizu made for a horror film compilation titled Gakko no Kaidan G, which was first shown on Kansai TV back in 1998. The story is as simple as a Japanese horror story gets, Kasatsumi tells the tale of two students in a school getting confronted by a ghost/demon after school, and 4444444444 has a school boy picking up a cellphone off the street and receiving very strange phone calls.

The films are a treat for those who are interested in Takashi Shimizu’s Ju-on, as we can see elements that he later used in creating one of the most famous horror saga. You may recall a certain crackling sound in these films, a pale little boy, a woman crawling on all fours, and perhaps the best part of Ju-on: senseless attack. What was striking about Shimizu’s work in Ju-on was its emphasis on the stories simply documents of events, happening at seemingly random moments to random people – the events do not need to be sensical, but they must be scary. This element is expressed in Katasumi and 4444444444 to great effect. Enjoy the films!

Baltimore’s experimental psychedelic band Animal Collective will release their new album ‘Centipede Hz’ in September. On behalf of ‘Centipede Hz’, Geologist (Brian Weitz) said that they gathered together in writing the songs instead of sending each other material back and forth like the last few records. Weitz explained: “We went back to our roots and we got a little practice space in this barn on Josh’s (Dibb) mum’s property and it was like being a garage band again.” They made it clear that this album is significantly different from their previous release the sample-heavy ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’. This tenth studio album is planned to be in stores in September. Animal Collective will introduce their two-track single entitled “Gotham” and “Honeycomb” on June 26th which will be available on digital download and 7” vinyl. It is yet undecided whether those tracks will be featured on ‘Centipede Hz’. Check these brand new songs from Animal Collective here.

The editorial of the June edition of SENSE magazine will be featuring the well-known street wear brand from New York, SUPREME, with Leo Fitzpatrick as the model. The 33 year-old American actor from the HBO series The Wire once again collaborated with SUPREME on this photo shoot.

The editorial includes items from the 2012 spring/summer collection as well as items never have been featured anywhere else. One was a pair of shoes that appears to be another collaboration with Vans, and one was a floral pattern shirt, which pattern we have seen in the current collection on a cotton pullover. The photos were shot with different set of backgrounds, in contrast to the bold colors seen in the collection.

The Offscreen Magazine is basically a printed magazine about the digital industry. Published by Melbourne-based web designer Kai Brach, the magazine gives the readers a peek into what goes on behind what we see on the web: how it works, what is done, and who is involved. The first issue covers 6 people working in the digital industry, in interviews where they talked about personal things, what’s on their desks, and the process behind the making of their digital work. It involves some of the biggest names in the industry, while also introducing the lesser known people.

The magazine is Brach’s effort to create something more tangible; the fact that the magazine is printed originates from the concept that it tries to explore what goes outside the digital world, so a physical magazine seems to be the most logical media to represent that content. So far the magazine has released one issue, below are some previews, the rest you can check out here.
