Potato Head is a sophisticated twist on the traditional bistro and bar around the globe. Set in a unique and original design complimented by a different interpretation of authentic bistro cuisines and a cocktail list that have set a totally new standard of the drinking culture in Jakarta.
The owners of Potato Head, Ronald Akili and Jason Gunawan have approached one of the most prominent architects in Indonesia Andra Matin to work together in designing a space that’s totally different to what the rest have to offer. The design is based on vintage industrial setting. The dining areas and bar are set in between a huge structure covered by murals done by one of the leading Indonesian contemporary artists, Eko Nugroho and on the other side a vertical green wall consisting of live plants were built to compliment the exposed textured cement.
To create a nice spacious atmosphere, the spaces are divided into three sections: ground, mezzanine and outdoor area. In response to create a dramatic architectural texture, the walls and ceilings are covered with a mix of old teak Louvers and exposed textured cement. The louvers were installed in various heights, depths and dimensions, which creates dramatic angles throughout the space.
Fine sophisticated furniture and vintage collectible items were placed to compliment the architecture. The Tolix chairs in the dining area were designed by Xavier Pauchard in 1934. It was first created for use in the weather forecasting room on French battleship. The bar stools are made of tractor seats combined with vintage stools. Designed daybeds are placed in the outdoor area setting a warm loungy vibe.
